Why Will Ants Stop for a Moment when They Meet with Other Ants?
Why will the ant stop for a moment if it meets / meets another ant? Ants that look "head-on" when they meet are actually communicating. T.C. Schneirla, a researcher at New York University, once experimented with ants. He took an ant and then put it in a place filled with food.
Other ants are placed in a place that contains enemy ants. Then the behavior of the two ants was observed especially when passing by his friends on the road.

From that research, Schneirla concluded that chemicals released from food or from ant enemies attached to the ants.
When meeting with the ants of his friends, these ants will greet each other (touching). Well, by greeting each other this chemical from the ant will tell his friend (through the antenna on the ant's head) whether in the surrounding environment there is food or there is an enemy.
